Lego 10219 Maersk Train Set UPDATE

Recently i have posted  an article about the new 2011 Lego 10219 Maersk Train set last week, and i have discovered new information to confirm my observation of what will be in this new set. The first thing i want to talk about, is whether it will be motorized or not, and the answer is no the train wont be motorized at all and you have to buy all the accessories for it. I was really hoping that at least a few of the accessories would come with it, like the train motor or the remote control, but it doesn’t have it. The set itself is sort of a creator set, it wasn’t meant to actually run, but more likely a replica of the real life cargo train from the Maersk company. The train with all three cars will measure in at 92 centimeters, or 36 inches in length, three minifigures, 2 full color instructions with the history of previous Maesrk Lego sets. The set will cost 199.99 in US Dollars, and 91.99 in US pounds If you need the list again to motorize your train, here are the Lego catalog numbers and names:

Lego Power Functions 8878: Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box#8887: Transformer 10V DC, 8884: Power Functions IR Receiver, 8879: Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control, and 88002: Power Functions Train Motor!

Lego 10219 Maersk Train Set

Today I have discovered that there is going to be a new Lego Train set on the way for 2011; this set is going to be called the 10219 Maersk Train Set. This particular Lego Train set is part of a small line of sets that revolve around the Maersk Company, since 1974. The 1650 Maersk Line container ship was the very first of this line, and the most recent one excluding this set, is another container ship the 10155 Maersk Container Ship. While this line was going on for a while, the Maersk Train set is the first train in the line. The train set has about 1235 pieces, and approx. 3-4 minifigures, along with a train engine, two train attachments, and a loading truck. From the pictures I have received, it does not look like it can actually come with any train tracks, or a sign that it’s a remote controlled trains, or the ones with the speed regulator, like the one in my Christmas review of the 4560. That’s when I ran across this picture:

It seems like this is going to be one of the more expensive sets seeing in this image, it requires five different accessories to make it run, like the 8878 Rechargeable battery box, 8887 10V Transformer, 8884 IR receiver, 8879 IR speed remote controller, and the one that makes the train move, the 88002 Power Function train motor. From what I can tell from research, the 8887 10V Transformer is going to plug into the 8878 rechargeable battery box, which those batteries are going to charge the 8879 IR speed remote control, which will send a signal to the 8884 IR receiver, which will then move the 88002 train motor. Everything except for the Train motor, all together cost $102.96  from the information I can gather. That is way too expensive for my budget, and seeing how massive this set is it might even be $200 when this train comes out! But I speculate that they will re-release these accessories for a lower price or they might just include them in the set. Either way, its an optional feature

Well it seems that these are a little to excessive, seeing how some sets I reviewed, like the 4560 Expressway train how it came with three parts, the 12V transformer, the speed regulator, and the cables that connects to the tracks and the train engine. That’s only 4 parts and was included with the set. Well that was so long ago, so let’s go use a different example, the 7898 was not released that long ago it had only 2 parts, the wireless speed controller, and the train engine. It seems as time goes along, there are fewer things and way more efficient. But now it seems like we’re going backwards in time making things less efficient and a lot more expensive. Again, this is just my speculation before the set even comes out, so not everything I say will be right, I might be wrong.

Lego 7499 RC Train Tracks

Lego 7499 RC (remote control) train tracks is a new release for 2011, and it’s different from its predecessor. This new train track allows you to curve your train tracks in various directions, unlike the normal curved track where you can have it bend in two opposite directions. It is only compatible with the Lego RC line, not the 9-volt line of Lego trains, since it does not run on electricity. These train tracks will be replacing the 2007 RC curved tracks, but not the normal straight track. The set will include 16 curved track pieces, and 8 straight track pieces 24 in all for $20.00 USD and £15.99 GBP at a toy store near you!

Lego 4560 Railway Express Train Set

This is the season for Christmas, baking cookies, hanging stockings, and of course putting up the Christmas tree, but what’s a Christmas tree without a Lego Train going around it? For many years we’ve never had a Christmas year without putting the Lego Train to go around the tree, this Lego Train set was the 4560 Railway Express, originally released in 1999. This train set includes three train cars, eighteen 12-volt train tracks, 9 minifigures, and a total of 642 pieces. Unlike the Lego 7898 Train set that uses batteries and a remote control, this set uses a speed regulator attached to a power transformer. That means instead of searching the house for AA batteries, all you have to do is just plug it in and go. It is perfect for any Christmas tree because the tree also uses a power cord for its multi-colored lights, so it is a perfect fit. The best things about this set besides the train itself are the accessories. It comes with three storage boxes to hold everything the train would need, like luggage, delicious pizza, refreshing drinks, and cold hard cash. How will they get those heavy boxes onto the train? With the Lego pick-up truck of course.

There are three different Train cars: one of them is the main engine where you put the train conductor; the other two are transport cars, which carry cars and Lego minifigures. The main engine car does not need batteries, and is ready to run as soon as you put it onto the train track. For added effect, it has a light up brick that will brighten the train tracks in the dark. The second transport car is the passenger car, featuring a television and dining area where passengers can snack on delicious pizza and drink refreshing beverages! The third car holds all the passengers’ one-seat vehicles, including the truck. Year after year we‘ve set this Lego train set up around the Christmas tree. You must be wondering, “Why aren’t you tired of it yet?” Because it wouldn’t be Christmas without it.

Lego 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe Review

The Lego 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe is a must-have Lego train set for the holiday season. The Lego 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe contains 856 pieces and includes five minifigures, twenty 9-volt train tracks, and an infrared remote controller. The Lego 7898 Cargo Train is compatible with any other Lego train sets, so you can make your train track bigger and better than ever! In addition, it doesn’t use the traditional manual train control that plugs into the wall, but instead a remote controller that runs on batteries. This is a plus because you won’t be restricted to a nearby power outlet; you can put the train set anywhere you want and control it from a distance. The only downside about this is that it requires 9 AA batteries for the train and wireless controller, total. With the controller you can honk the train’s horn, switch to three different channels, or make the train go in seven different speeds, forward and backwards! The channels are the signal the train gets from the remote controller, so if you have three trains you can control each one with a simple flick of a switch.

So let’s go over the main points of the set once more. The pros of this set are that you are not restricted by the need of nearby power outlets, you can put it anywhere you want, and it is controlled wirelessly! The only con is that it uses 9 AA batteries, but it’s a relatively minor issue. This Lego Train set (7898 Cargo Train Deluxe) is a great pick for this holiday season. The original MSRP was $149.99. Now, however, they can go anywhere from $200.00 to over $400.00 on various internet shopping sites. The price will only continue to climb as the years go by as they are bought and sold, so get ’em before they all leave the station!

Cantigny Illinois 9th Annual Lego Train Show Exhibit 4

Lego Abrams Tank

This exhibit is not actually a Lego train set diorama, but a tribute to all those who served in World War II. It depicted the Invasion of Normandy. It might seem improper and out of place at a Lego train convention, but then again, the convention itself was being held at Cantigny Museum, which is a war memorial. The display featured a Lego LCVP (or a Higgins boat) and a few dozen Lego Soldiers and some tanks tanks storming the beaches.

Lego Higgins Boat

The interesting part of this exhibit was its custom-made Lego war machines, such as the Jeeps, Trucks, Tanks, and boats. There were all sorts of details, and you could tell that the designers really paid close attention to the build. I personally like this diorama. There’s no better way to pay tribute to all those who participated – and died – in the Invasion of Normandy and in World War II than having people who care enough to spend their time and money to make these dioramas.

As I was walking out of the building, I was thinking about how long it took those people to make all of those dioramas. I’m sure it took a great deal of time and effort to set them up, and I can admire that.

Cantigny Illinois 9th Annual Lego Train Show Exhibit 3

Star Wars Episode X The fight of Dairy Queen

Lego Petsmart Pandemic

Unlike the other two exhibits distinct theme, the one at this one was a Harry Potter. One of the three trains that were in operation was 4708: Hogwarts Express Lego train set, it goes through a huge Lego sized Hogwarts building, and the other ones are custom made trains. That was just one part of the exhibit that was recognizable; the rest of the diorama was just all over the place, varying from Batman sets to Winnie the Pooh. As random as this diorama was, it was actually pretty funny. The other diorama was funny because of the movie references, such as the Spaceballs Lego from the second diorama. In this diorama the figures are “Combing the desert” which was a memorable scene from the movie Spaceballs, but people has to see it to get the joke. For this exhibit however, in order to get the joke, they don’t have to know any kind of movie, or pop culture references to laugh at the diorama.

Cantigny Illinois 9th Annual Lego Train Show Exhibit 2

Sears Tower (though I suppose it's the Willis Tower now...)

This exhibit was by far the largest – and the most interesting – at the show. It had some great custom-built Lego train cars, courtesy of the Northern Illinois Lego Train Club (NILTC). I was unable to photograph the entire exhibit, as it was too crowded to get some of the better pictures. There were some really cool dioramas, such as a Toy Story and a Pirates-themed diorama, and so much more. There were so many things going

If you look at the Gas sign you will see something, interesting...

I'm craving a Brick Burger right about now.

on at this exhibit. It was just bursting with movie references, including Batman, Night of the Living Dead, the Dollar trilogy; the list goes on. Of course, as with the previous exhibit, the dioramas were not what people wanted to see. They wanted to see the NILTC’s creativity with their trains. Some were original Lego sets that were slightly modified. Some were custom, but based on existing trains in real life. One such train was the Metra train replica. Others were totally original in their designs, and I’ve got to say that some of them were really cool. Speaking of cool, how could I forget the 10-foot high model of the Sears Tower (though I suppose it’s the Willis Tower now…) with working lights? It was the first thing I saw when I walked in. The one that I didn’t notice at the exhibit the first time round, was a “Back to the Future” train from part 3, and the Delorean makes an appearance. There was so much at this exhibit that I can’t fit into one post, look at the pictures below and see for yourself.

Cantigny Illinois 9th Annual Lego Train Show Exhibit 1

The 9th Annual Lego Train Show was held at Cantigny in Wheaton, Illinois. This exhibit was placed in the lobby of the Cantigny museum. The attraction for young children came in a form of a trackless train ride around the grounds of the complex; for one dollar per ride.

There displayed three Lego trains going through a custom built Lego city. Near the custom buildings, there were also some Lego sets. The buildings were not the main attraction of this exhibit, though; it was the trains that stole the spotlight. The trains that were displayed include the green bullet train, the 10020 Santa Fe Super Chief and the 7897 Passenger Train sets. Just a few feet away from this exhibit, some vendors were selling some neat stuff there, the item that caught my eye were these nifty miniature train Christmas tree decorations. It was the first exhibit that I saw at the show, and a good one to get things started at that.
